I just made some delicous blueberry-aronia pies using a standard blueberry pie recipe with crumb topping. I substituted 1/3 of the 4 cups blueberries with aronia, with great new flavor. I have also added juneberries to a raw strawberry pie with strawberry glaze.
I also made a great ice cream sauce - also delicious on cheesecake - by putting about 2 cups aronia berries ina food processing and dicing them as fine as possible. I added them to 1 cup organic cane sugar, 1/4 cup organic corn starch, and 2 cups apple juice. which I had cooked for a few minutes to thicken, then cooked the whole amount for about an hour on low heat. It is delicious! We had it on vanilla ice cream for dessert.
I have made many a tart using pie crust rolled out, and adding any combination of fruits mixed with sugar and flour, and baking until bubbly and the crust is brown. Fruit combinations have been blueberry/aronia, black currant/blueberry, raspberry/juneberry. The options are limitless.
